Bronx is still in the NICU, but is making good progress. He was a little bit lazy for a couple of his feedings through the night, and so they placed an NG tube to be able to gavage feed him whatever he is unable to nipple. The pediatrician today said he is very pleased with his progress and is letting us go up by 2cc every feeding instead of just 1cc, as long as he can tolerate it. He has had a really good day today and so we have been able to continue going up on his feedings. The last feeding I went to he was up to 35cc, so I hope he continues to do well throughout the night. All of the nurses say that he is sometimes a little bit lazy and disinterested in eating when they try to feed him, and are amazed that he eats like a champ whenever Tyson and I are in there feeding him. We must have the magic touch!!:)
We are able to go in and feed him every 3hrs. We start out by getting his temperature and changing his diaper, and then we get him out of his isolette to eat. He is usually wide awake and very interactive during his feeds, which makes it so much fun. He is usually pretty warn out by the time he finishes his bottle and generally falls asleep after while we are holding him. There have been a handful of times though where he is still wide awake and it breaks my heart having to put him back in his isolette with his big, dark eyes staring back at me!! It's hard not being able to have him at home with us where we can hold and snuggle him as long as we want, all day and all night. If he continues to do as well as he has, I am hoping that it won't be too long before we can bring him home!!:)
Today at one of his evening feeds, Tyson and I were both able to go in and see him, while my mom watched Teague, which was nice. Tyson was the one doing his cares and then feeding him and during the middle of his feed, right after being burped, Bronx caught hold of his NG tube and yanked it right out!!:) He must not be too impressed!! They did end up putting it back down tonight, which he was really upset about!!
