A few weeks ago, we said bye-bye to the binky! About a year ago, we had Teague almost completely weaned, but then he got sick, and it was downhill from there!:) We recently tried to just give it to him at bedtime and nap time, but then he would find them laying around under his bed, in his bed, etc. and seemed to think he needed to have one in his mouth at all times. We decided it was time to be completely done with it. I had heard about cutting the nipple on the binky so that is was "broken" and decided to give it a try. I cut the nipple off in front of Teague and from then on out, when he would ask for his binky, I would hand him the broken one. He would look at it for a minute and then chuck it across the room and then continue doing whatever he was doing. He didn't seem to mind. I was nervous for nighttime, because I know that is how he soothed himself when he would wake up in the night, but decided that I was still going to try and cut him off, cold turkey. The first couple of nights I had to go in and lay by him and try to soothe him while he was crying, but after about the 4th and 5th night, things seemed to be fine. If I would have known it was going to be that easy, I probably would have tried to wean him long ago! Because Bronx never has been one to take the binky, I can proudly say that our house is now binky free!:)
(Funny story: There was one morning when Teague was knocking at his door and talking, telling me he wanted to get out, and his words seemed kind of muffled! I opened the door and saw that he had a binky in his mouth, and a big, wide grin underneath!:) He must have found a stray somewhere in his bed in the night! He thought he was pretty cool for finding one and ran from me when I tried to take it away. It wasn't long after that I took it out of his mouth and he was completely fine. I think he was just trying to be a tease!:)
